Technical Branches

We can group the classes of insurance listed below under the heading of technical branches:

Electronic Insurance

  • Data Insurance
  • Increased Cost of Working Insurance

Electronic Insurance is an All Risks Coverage, and the only applicable exclusions are war, civil commotion, nuclear risks, malicious acts perpetrated by the insured or their representatives, normal or premature wear and tear or ageing. Data Insurance and Increased Cost of Working Insurance represent a sensible complementary cover to Electronic Insurance.

In the domain of Data Insurance it is possible to insure data, whether this be permanent or temporary data, mass produced standard software data, or individually produced ready-to-use programmes including databases on which the information is stored. A prerequisite to trigger this coverage is however the occurrence of an insured property damage loss.

Coverage afforded under increased cost of working insurance extends to the cost of stop-gap measures which may become necessary if, as a result of a property damage loss caused by an insured peril, the system or equipment cannot be operated or there is an impairment of its ability to function. Business Interruption or a reduction in business output can thus be avoided.

Machinery Breakdown Insurance

  • Stationary equipment
  • Mobile equipment

Machinery Breakdown cover for stationary equipment for industrial and commercial operations protects against damage or destruction caused by an unforeseen event, for example faulty maintenance, faulty operation, negligence, short circuit, power surge. Events that are not covered are the perils of fire, lightning, explosion, civil commotion, war, nuclear risks, intentional act of the policyholder or his/her representatives.

Cover for mobile and transportable plant and other moveable machinery (e.g. excavators, forklift trucks, mobile cranes) insures against damage or destruction caused by an unforeseen event (e.g. fire, lightning, explosion, war, faulty maintenance, faulty operation, negligence, short circuit, power surge). Risks which are not insured are losses due to theft, robbery, burglary, losses occurring during tunnelling works, open cast workings, civil commotion, war, nuclear risks, intentional act of the insured or his/her representatives.

Business Interruption Insurance

If, following a loss from an insured peril the operational status of systems, installations, and/or machinery is halted and there is a consequential business interruption whether partial or total, a recovery can be made in respect of the cost of such Business Interruption, due to for example reduced profits and payment of standing charges which cannot demonstrably be recovered from elsewhere.

Contractors All Risk Insurance

  • Surface construction and engineering work
  • Underground construction and engineering work

Contractors All Risk Insurance covers the construction phase of new, rebuilding or extension projects, including restoration and maintenance work for the principal and contractor. Insured perils are damage or destruction as a result of an unforeseen event, e. g. act of nature beyond control, malicious damage by persons unknown, unusual or extreme weather conditions, loss from theft of material to be incorporated in the building works. The risk not covered includes shortage of building materials etc., damage caused by normal weather conditions, fire, lightning, explosion, commotion, nuclear risks.

Insurance protection for construction equipment, hand tools, temporary buildings and storage facilities are generally not covered by the Contractors All Risk Insurance.

Erection All Risk Insurance

The scope of Erection All Risk Insurance is to cover risks during the construction phase of new or existing projects of all types, including machinery, mechanical or electrical equipment. The insurance operates in respect of loss caused by damage or destruction from an unforeseen event, as for example fire, lightning, explosion, faulty operation, negligence, malicious damage by third parties, sabotage. Normally cover is not given for war, confiscation, act of nature and nuclear risks.

In this class, extensions to the policy period are commonly required.
